Elk Mountain in the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge, Oklahoma, offers hikers stunning panoramic views, diverse wildlife, and a 3.5-mile trail with an elevation gain of 617 feet. The trail begins at the Sunset Trailhead, leading to the first summit bump and then to the actual summit. The area is rich in flora and fauna, making it a picturesque hiking destination.
Exploring the Appalachian Trail’s halfway point in Pennsylvania’s Michaux State Forest
We hiked a six and a half mile loop at Sunset Rocks and the Appalachian Trail’s historic halfway point in Michaux State Forest, Pennsylvania. The trail offers stunning views and passes the unofficial halfway point of the Appalachian Trail. Starting at Camp Michaux, we explored the CCC camp ruins and enjoyed the trail before returning to our starting point.
