The Huckleberry Loop Trail in the western Catskills offers a diverse 13-mile hike for both day and overnight hikers. With stunning views, varied terrain, and reliable water sources, it’s a moderate to challenging experience.

The 13.5-mile loop hike on the Mahoosuc Trail’s western section may lack grand views, but offers a sense of wilderness adventure. Following part of the Appalachian Trail, the route includes steady climbs, diverse terrains, and about 3,900 feet of elevation gain. Expect challenging conditions and plan for a longer hike than anticipated.

Elk Mountain in the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge, Oklahoma, offers hikers stunning panoramic views, diverse wildlife, and a 3.5-mile trail with an elevation gain of 617 feet. The trail begins at the Sunset Trailhead, leading to the first summit bump and then to the actual summit. The area is rich in flora and fauna, making it a picturesque hiking destination.

We hiked a six and a half mile loop at Sunset Rocks and the Appalachian Trail’s historic halfway point in Michaux State Forest, Pennsylvania. The trail offers stunning views and passes the unofficial halfway point of the Appalachian Trail. Starting at Camp Michaux, we explored the CCC camp ruins and enjoyed the trail before returning to our starting point.
