Some interesting Trail tidbits from the Catskills

I’ve been working on a number of different projects in the Catskill Mountains for the Trail Conference, including managing a economic impact study for a potential rail trail.

What’s a trail worth?

In the case of the potential Catskill Mountain Rail Trail, plenty.  As detailed in the Trail Conference commission report, the proposed trail has the potential to attract 140,000 visitors annual who will help contribute over $3 million to the Ulster County economy.

REI Helping the Catskill Mountains Lean-tos

REI has recently awarded the Trail Conference $10,000 in support of its Lean-to Repair, Maintenance and Reconstruction Program.  This money will be used to bolster our program and includes money for management, materials and supplies.

New Brochures & Free Maps for the Catskill Park’s Fire Towers

Offering amazing 360-degree views from five of the Catskill Mountains most popular peaks, the Catskill Park’s Fire Towers are arguable the most popular hiking destinations in the Park.  The Trail Conference recently released brochures and maps for all five of these towers, offering visitors a clear, concise and easy to use guide so they can hike to the tower on their own.  The included maps are modified from the Trail Conference’s Catskill Trails 6-map set, which is available for sale on its own.
