As a member of the Alumni Council for Lyndon State College I have been able to start giving back for the great education and experience that I received while I made my way to receiving my degree from LSC. I could not have asked for a better place to learn the skills that have served me well in the years since I graduated. Not only that, but Lyndon State was where I met my spouse and that alone is something that is priceless.
To give back, in addition to both of us serving on the Alumni Council, my spouse and I have begun supporting LSC through annual donations and support of the Alumni Council’s efforts to rehabilitate the college’s Theatre. The Alexander Twilight Theatre is the heart of the Lyndon State College campus and has been a center of entertainment and education not only for the College but for the greater Northeast Kingdom community for over four decades. In its glory years, the Twilight Theatre was the best of its kind from Montreal to Boston and acts headlining in New York City were also seen at Lyndon.
Today the theatre may not look so worn out at first glance, however outdated features and fixtures become apparent when the limitations of an aged theatre make the booking of performances, conferences, and outside groups a challenge. What used to be the College’s crown jewel has become its handicap. The old girl is in need of an upgrade and without these upgrades, the College will be limited on how theatre can be used as a full 21st Century facility, which leads to a huge loss in student experience and college revenue.
Today the Alumni Council is in the process of raising $40,000 to complete Phase Two (of three phases of improvement). We are currently working on two different programs to raise funds. Our Take a Seat program which allows students, alumni, friends, businesses and supporters of the college and the theatre to name a seat in the theatre (Donations through the Take a Seat program are tax-deductible). Enjoy auctions? We are also working with BiddingForGood to hold a series of auctions to raise funds for the Alumni Council efforts.
I urge all friends of Lyndon State College and of the arts to consider helping us help the theatre. It truly the heart of the college for students, alumni, faculty and the surrounding community.
